Anchorage - Vancouver in 6 weeks
Hello!I just got my flight to Alaska - was waiting for one year to get it with my bonus miles..... :))))
We will fly to Anchorage in summer 2013, are pretty excited... I think, August is peak season, so we should make some plans as soon as possible to make some reservation in time...
We are thinking about travelling round in Alaska and then going down the inside passage to Vancouver.
What would you do in 6 weeks?
We would love to see the bears in Katmai NP, Denali....
Seward, Glacier Bay etc.
We are happy about every advice!!!
We would love to go camping, backpacker, youth hostel, cheaper hotels and B&B.

Post this in the USA forum all your questions pertain to American sites!2
Except Vancouver....but the ferry doesn't go to Vancouver, it goes to Bellingham. Before you go racing over to the USA forum, think about including information about your budget, your means of travel (car, bus, plane, walking, hitchhiking, dogsled, kayak, crawling on hands and knees carrying giant wooden cross on back), your interests, etc. etc. etc. With 6 weeks from arrival in Anchorage to Bellingham you'll have time to see a representative bit of Alaska and the coast.
Hope that's helpful.

i take it you have a one way ticket to Anchorage. your options for connecting to the ferry (Alaska Marine Highway System) will either be by picking it up in Whittier (about 45 miles south of Anchorage) or else getting over to one of the Southeast Alaska towns such as Haines (which is connected to the road system, but is 750 miles from Anchorage) or flying in to Juneau. The Cross-Gulf ferry only runs twice per month, but the 2013 schedule is not out yet - it could possibly change. If you plan to connect to the ferry from Whittier, that might be the most important reservation you'll make, and that timing might dictate the scheduling of your other trips. here is the link to the ferry:http://www.dot.state.ak.us/amhs/

THANK YOU all so much for your informations!Well, we are thinking about spending some days in/around Anchorage, going to Katmai NP to see the bears and wanna hire a car and travelling round for 2-3 weeks.
Then catching the ferry down to Vancouver and spend there a few days.
We are travelling on a middle budget, what means, we are fine with the cars and expect tp spend around 1300 US$ to see the bears. But we don“t wanna go to hotel every single night, spend a lot of money in accomodation or expensive meals.
Every advice, what is worth seeing is more than welcome! :)

You need a car and camping gear, for sure.I was in McCarthy and Valdez this summer, enjoyed both. The drive into Valdez is a knockout. You can tour Prince William Sound by boat, whale watch watch etc.
