EC Train Booking from Prague to Berlin

I understand child age 14 travel free with parent in Germany. When I attempt to book 3 seats (2 adults and 1 child) from Prague to Berlin via www.bahn.de, the cost is 58 Eur for 3 tickets. However, when I try booking via www.cd.cz, the cost is 2210 CZK (which is about 90 Eur) - which means child does not enjoy free ride. So it seems cheaper to book via Germany website.

Why is there a difference?

Will I have problem if I book via www.bahn.de, meaning will I be charged more for the child during ticket check by the Czech's conductor?

In general, a child travels for free if he/she does not occupy a seat. This usually applies only to very small children who sit on their parent's lap. I don't believe a 14 year-old would qualify for a free ticket.

If I read correctly , child aged 14 and below travel free with parent, at least in Germany (see http://www.raileurope.co.uk/Default.aspx?tabid=1660)

The offered specials are similar but not identical.
With an Europa-Spezial Tschechien of DB a 14 years old is indeed free. While with a Sporo-Ticket Nemecko (Germany) of CD the rules are: "uniform price; no additional discounts may be applied (e.g. for children, pensioners, In-karta cardholders)". Availability of the Sporo-Ticket is however much better.

Thus in your case buy the ticket from DB. There will be however an additional shipping fee of EUR 3,50 as this ticket is not available as online ticket. The Czech conductors cannot verify online tickets issued by DB, only the ones of CD.

No.

Thanks Abalada.

I'm planning for a 10:29 train to Berlin. Will this train be crowded or should I reserve seats (to ensure 3 of us can seat together)? The date is 7 Dec.

Friday, December - I would reserve seats. Family seat reservation is EUR 8,00.

I love to but I think reservation is automatic. Hopefully it is on the right.

Hopefully it is on the right.

You'll probably have plenty of options when you're on the train, anyway...the right side is the most scenic as you head north from Prague, in my opinion...have a good trip...

Yes I've booked and received the ticket via post within 7 days (from Germany to Singapore). Very efficient I must say. Made a reservation too. Thanks all for the great advice.

Does that mean if I'm buying an online ticket from Prague to Berlin, that have to buy from the CD site, not the German one?

I bought from dahn.de. The only restriction is you can't print your own tickets as Prague, as i read does not have the required equipment to validate your tickets. The tickets will be sent to you. I got mine within 7 days (Singapore).
