  • smart phones are the object of a thieves desire.

There are tons of smart phones all over the place these days here in Asia. It isn't as that the thieves will gather around you and start drooling because you got a smart phone.

OP's problem is not what is being carried. It is the 'there are moments when I will need to leave those valuables somewhere'.

As pointed out above only leave those valuables out of sight if they are in a secure place like a locker or safe.
Bag chained to a bed? Good luck with that, and you will need it. How easy it is to get into such a bag...

Unattended valuables is where your loss will occur.

I can't imagine uploading loads of photos online whilst traveling is very easy.

Not that i've been myself yet. I can just see it being a complete pain with slow internet etc.

Have you also considered backing up all your photos and videos etc

This has been commented on many times over many years on many T.T. forums.

The consensus is that it's not viable to upload photos /videos, especially when link speed is a concern.
