Crossing the Darian Gap overland?
Hi everyone,Four of us are considering crossing the Darian Gap overland from Panama to Colombia in a month or two. Has any of you been there or has reliable current information about traveling from Panama to Colombia overland? Is it doable?
Thank you for your time!

It's firmly on the tourist trail these days. Any hostel in Panama City can arrange a tourist shuttle direct to Medellin. But it's a long trip so you may prefer to stop off for a few days at one of the Darien's cool backpacker hostels. Try "Fer de Lance backpackers", they run multi-day treks into the Darien jungle, they have an awesome zipline/high ropes course, and don't miss their delicious banana pancakes! Tell Manolo I said hi.8
I would think nycsocialite would be clued into the latest ways to go across the gap, as seen in Conde Nast and TimeOut, but just rent a Range Rover, and hire an escort of ex para military, one great benefit of this route is very cheap and pure blow....everyone in the Hamptons have already done this a few years ago though, kind of passe...9
Tim, have you ever crossed Darien into Colombia by land? Then what are you doing on this thread?Let it be known to all, So Low Hobo and mrmrst are actually one and the same!
So there!

nycsocialiteEveryone here is pulling your leg. It is not possible to cross the Darien Gap overland, there is no road, its a dangerous area of rebels, narco traffickers and hostile indigenous indians, para military and a deadly jungle no man has survived.
You need to fly, take a sail boat charter, or go via series of busses, local cargo boats, small islands and no hotels, just on a wing and a prayer.
