1 year multi entry tourist visa to china for Australian passport

Hi, we are looking to travel to china multiple times in the next 12months (going on different trips to south Korea, central Asia then Russia). It looks to be cheapest to get a 1 year multi entry tourist visa to china - is this feasible? Do people easily get this visa or is it a bureaucratic nightmare? Are we better off getting a number of single entry's?
Cheers

Have you been to China previously? If not, the chances of getting a multiple entry visa seem slim. Even slimmer is the likelihood of getting a Chinese visa while traveling except perhaps in Hong Komg. Getting a Chinese visa in Russia or South Korea requires residency. There are occasional reports of folks getting one in the 'stans. Try searching for details.

Consider reworking your itinerary.

Thanks, I was planning on getting the visa in Australia before we left. I'm coming back to Australia in between trips but figured a multi entry would be easiest as flights to the areas of asia we are interested in are cheapest if you fly through china.

You can transit airports without a visa. In fact, you can even leave some of the international airports for 24 hours without a visa if you aren't making other stops in China.
