Pemba or Zanzibar

Hello people,

we planned a trip to Zanzibar -
we have 6.5 days for it and now we are wondering if we should spend 3 days in Pemba for diving?
Does somebody has experience on both and can recommend a good company?
Also, are there a lot of budget hostels or guesthouses available on Pemba
as i can find just the expensive resorts?
Cheers

Thank you
Andrea

yes I am having the same trouble. The only place I have found is Ocean Panorama Hotel in Mkoani and I have emailed them about four times and have still not heard anything. Hope you have more luck....the hotels are far too upmarket for me!! If you find out anything would love to hear about it.

Hey,

just wanted to report back from our holiday on Pemba!
We had a great time and i can strongly recommend Swahili Divers on Pemba.
Great people, relaxed atmosphere, very nice diving !!
They go out with a boat for 2 dives in the morning and if you want, another one in the afternoon.
It is a really nice place, not to expensive if you sleep in the dorm, very nice bungalows and
great terrace to watch the sunset after a day of diving.
We wanted to stay for 3 days and stayed there for 5 because it was just perfect at the moment.
Just relaxing and diving, eating, sleeping, diving :)
And diving on Pemba is less crowded ( we were the only divers at the sites) and still untouched -
not like Zanzibar. So a good choice.
The only thing on Pemba is that there is no ATM on the island and it takes you 1.5hours to get from the airport to the Swahili Divers in the North - but worth it!!

Its true pemba is much more relax than zanzibar and the dive sites are 10 times better ,
If you are not low on budget you should try doing it in a liveaboard , there is one catamaran running around prepared foir the diving and they anchor at incredible beaches, untouched , also they will make you dinner at mesali wich is a marine reserve with fire and fresh fish !!
