1Caracas: lots of people spend time in Caracas with no problems, however it remains one of the most hazardous places on the planet (one of the three in which I have witnessed firefights in the streets in "non-wartime" conditions). I have visited many times and am very cautious. Last time travelling through Venezuela (six weeks in all) we simply avoided Caracas completely.
Angel Falls: although you should take the usual care in Ciudad Bolivar/Ciudad Guyana, the whole area south of the Orinoco and east of Ciudad Bolivar is very safe, with the exception of El Callao, which has experienced an increase in street violence during carnaval in recent years.
We have no recent experience in Isla Margarita. We avoid beaches in areas with easy access (east of Puerto la Cruz for example) however Los Roques is safe (and well worth visiting). You could also consider Morrocoy as an alternative to Margarita.

3For a beach destination I'd suggets you Choroni, which has a very nice caribbean feal and is very safe also for walking in dark. It's also inexpensive, both for accommodation and transport. It's quiite easy to get to /an from Caracas) and has plenty of cheap posadas to choose fro.
We visited both Los Roques and Choroni - if you can afford Los Roques, that's the ultimate destination. If not Choroni would be your best bet for my opinion. There are also different beaches around you can get by boat.
We met several other tourists on our trip and none of them who visited Margarita and any other beach destination were not too happy about Margarita. If kiteboarding is your passion then Margarita would suite your interests.
If I'll ever go back to Venezuela, I'll go back to Choroni.
We also spent 2 nights and days in Caracas and felt pretty safe thanks to our local friends who drove us around.
We also visited some bars, night clubs and salsa bars - all in Altamira region. It was great fun!
We stayed in Eurobuilding Hotel and Suites and the level of services was really good however the ameneties are a little bit worn out. But it was also a very safe place to stay but not cheap.

4Interested in a travel buddy to Angel Falls? I will also be visiting Caracas in the beginning of November for a friend's wedding, then I have some solo time to go off exploring, though I have a tight budget. I have read so far it is best to book a tour from Ciudad Bolivar and I'm guessing the larger the group the cheaper the price. Let me know. Thanks in advance.
