Recommend a beach on Koh Phangan ?

Hi,
Family of 5 looking to spend a week on Koh Phangan in January. Looking for a beautiful beach not too remote but not too busy. Bottle Beach or Thong Nai Pan/Yai are sounding good. Can anyone tell us their preference and why?
Also would we be silly not to book ahead (high season) and would a budget of 1500Baht be realistic for a family bungalow (or 2 cheaper bungalows if necessary, fan only fine ). Recommendations of accomodation would be great. Thanks for any help,

Than Sadet is my preference as devoid of party bars ( or at least was when I stayed there last ) while I had to leave TNPY because of the horrendeous noise till 3am every night.
TNPN has gone upmarket, so that's out.
You'd be pushing it to find a "family bungalow", though I did see a large place right on the sand at Chaloklum. Also plenty of houses for rent there in the village.

Check out thansadet.com- loads of pics and you can book through the web site to get a hut right on the sand. Some have 2 double beds.

Bottle is OK too. Smile has nice huts, and there is another place with huts right on the sand.

We stayed in a bungalow at Ma Pen Rai at Than Sadet a few years back that had a big king bed than 2 singles up in a loft which most probably they could put another single in.

Hat Yao ( west coast ) is very upmarket now, so too many buildings, expensive and more likely to be busy.

My wife and I stay at North Beach Bungalows in Chaloklum for 500 bht. basic hut on the beach, fan, sink, shower ( cold ) and toilet. we are older, me 65. Next to N.B. is Fanta Sea, with a wide arrangement of bungalows from 600 bht to 2000 bht. Both of these places have good rest., good for swimming, and a short 3 blk. walk into the village with many rest., stores, 711. Not a real busy party place. Works for us, have stayed here 3 or 4 times. We have also stayed at Than Sadet, nice quiet spot, generator run the last time I was there. J.S. Hut has a big hut on the beach with 2 beds, ask for # 9. Like this place, but not much to do, kids could get bored real fast. Cheers.

Than Sadet is a beautiful place, but the ocean can be very rough at times, as far as nature and walking, yes for 1 day. Chaloklum has all the same but better for swimming and more interaction with the Thai culture. Depends on the age of the kids as well. I love both these places. Cheers.

Thanks very much for the advice. We are going to go for Bottle Beach and see how that goes. Than Sadet sounds beautiful and we might have a day trip there.
I think the boat trip from Bottle Beach to Chaloklum is not very far so a day there checking out village life, eating and the beach is also in the plans.
Just can't wait to get there now!
