Myanmar border, open or no?

Hi all,

I'm currently in Luang Prabang, Laos and hoping to be able to cross into Myanmar either from the Lao or close by Thai border. Hear/read different thoughts on accessibility but wondering if I'm able to. Already have a Myanmar visa and wanting to stay in country for a couple weeks. Does anyone know or have experience with and can give some advise? Ultimately would like to get to Inle Lake.

Thank and happy travels,
Cj

You'll need to fly in and out if you want to travel around Burma.

Not possible from Laos, and from Thailand Mae Sai you would only get to Taichilek or Kengtung...to get to central Myanmar from there requries a special MTT permit and a flight...and the permit would take maybe 2 weeks to get...IF you could get it.
To exit from Myanmar this way (eg...fly Inle to Kengtung, then by land to Tailchilek) has been difficult for the last couple years, but someone did it recently...required the $60 MTT permit and took em 2 weeks to get the permit.
But forget about doing it the other direction..
