Louisiana suggestions for lone travel

Hey all who know Louisiana, I'd appreciate your advice on this!

So I'll be in Louisiana for work in October, and I have some time off to explore. I'm free starting on the 18th in New Orleans and I have to be in Baton Rouge early morning of the 22nd. I plan on renting a car.

First off I'm a young women traveling alone so no dark alleys or haunted houses please! And I'd like to spend as little money as I can.

Other than that I'd like to see a few different things, a plantation house, a wetlands tour/alligator tour (but something ecofriendly would be nice), some good food (I LOVE seafood and grits), some local music, a couple of historical tours or other cool things I haven't thought of.

I picture myself sitting on a porch swing in the afternoon, looking out at old trees, sipping iced tea, and then having dinner with some nice people (locals maybe) I just met!! Maybe even dancing a little.

As for accomodations I've seen on this forum recommendations for Bayou Cabins and Blue Moon Guest House, are these good? Any other recommendations?

Thanks a lot!!

When I was in New Orleans, I took the Garden District tour from them:

It was a lot of fun and very informative for little money.

I've only visited the area once, and am not familiar enough to make recommendations, but have you looked at the TripAdvisor reviews for the two accomodations you mentioned? Blue Moon Guest House is listed as being in Lafayette, Bayou Cabins in Breaux Bridge, both more than a 2 hour drive from N.O. and then about an hour from either back to Baton Rouge.

Since your trip is only 1.5 months away, you'll likely see some of the flooding effects from Hurricane Isaac that's still dumping rain on the entire area tonight.

When we visited, we enjoyed traveling around the New Iberia area, going to the botanical parks at Avery Island (Tobasco) and near the disappearing Lake Peigneur.

Thank you both,

Incrou7 : I will definitely check out that walking tour, it seems wonderful!

Midwesterner : I have looked at where these places are and it's the area I'd like to visit, but you're right, I'll wait to see the effects of the hurricanes before I decide anything. Avery Island sounds wonderful, I'll put it on my list!
