Transylvania in Feb/Mar
I'm going to have a few weeks off in Feb/Mar and been told to check out Transylvania because the countryside is really nice but these people have only been in late spring and summer. So is Transylvania worth seeing in Feb/Mar when snow is covering up everything? I doubt a Mountain Bike trek is going to be possible.

Winter can be nice too in the mountains and countryside. The landscapes are still great and there are hiking routes that can be done in winter (provided that you're prepared for the snow and cold weather).3
It can look really beautiful if there is fresh snow and the villages are quiet but you really need to prepare yourself it can get down to -20 so really good winter cloths are advisable. Mountain bikeing is probably not an option often the roads lie untreated and covered in ice at that time of year. However walking is possible but again come prepared and make sure you have good accommodation where they will look after you.4
You're right, most people prefer to visit Transylvania summer, but winter is an excellent choice.5
Hi! I'm Romanian. Feb/Mar is not the best time of year to travel in Romania. Feb is very cold, and March may come with floodings due to snow melting up high in the mountains. Coming here during this time you may get a bad impresion about the country, which otherwise is great. Do not consider biking through wild paths, as ground is muddy. If you really have to go on Feb/Mar, check mainly cities - Cluj is great, Oradea too, try Timisoara, Arad and Brasov. Also, you may find interesting the fortified churches - a lot of them in Transilvania.

For sightseeing Transylvania is not as beautiful in Feb/Mar as in the spring or summer for example. Snowshoeing, skiing or snowboarding might be possible in that period, as most probably there will be snow in the mountains, but a MTB trek will definitely be out of the question. Whenever you decide to visit Transylvania, and whatever activity you choose to do (even downhill rides), I could recommend an activity tour agency: www.activeholidays.roHave a great holiday!
