4 Day Road Trip from Madrid to...?
Hello Friends,My husband and I have a 4 day stop in Spain where we land in Madrid. We want to rent a car from the airport and spend a few days driving around. (No need to go into Madrid.) Any suggested itineraries that would be do-able in that amount of time?
I would love to see some (but don't need to see all) of these things... beach, mountains, food, wine, nature, little towns, small hotels.
And, yes, we are on a budget!
Thanks so much.

Hi....Madrid is a fair drive from any beach, so possibly do a night out to make it worthwhile.
You'll see mountains pretty well all over Spain. It's one of Europe's most mountainous countries.
For 4 days, I'd do a trip to either the Basque or Portugal.
Get up early and avoid the extremely boring toll (AP) roads, too.
Just a few lines from me. Hope you have a great trip.

If you want to stay in Spain and want to see and taste everything you mention, Galicia is the place to go. There are mountains, up to about 2000 meter, a lot of beaches, delicious seafood, excellent wines (Albariño), many small villages (Galicia has the most population-centers of all spanish autonomies), the coast is spectacular, many small hotels (look for hostals). I've written about Galicia in other threads and suggest you use the search-function of this forum to find the information. If you would decide to go, come back with specific questions and I'll see if I can answer them.4
Personally, I think Galacia is too far for four days as tiy would use one day each way getting there and back. I would look and #2 and add north to maybe Burgos or south to Aranjuez.6
A possible option to get all you want to get would be:Day 1: Madrid to Soria. Possible stops: Alcalá de Henares, Sigüenza, Medinaceli, Berlanga de Duero...
Day 2: Soria to Logroño. Stop in the espacio natural Sierra de Urbión to enjoy nature for the day.
Day 3: Logroño-San Sebastián. We don't know your travel dates but in San Sebastián you can enjoy the beach. If there isn't beach time the city has enough attractions. If you feel you need to explore smaller places, you can go, for example, to nearby Pasaia or Hondarribia.
Day 4: San-Sebastián-Madrid. Possible stops: Vitoria, Burgos, Lerma...
Note: the possible stops are only some ideas/suggestions. Be flexible and stop whereever you feel it can be interesting.
