Comparative costs- Panama vs Colombia

I am currently backpacking in Colombia(Taganga area). Would like to come up to Panama for some decent surf. Wondering if anyone with recent experience in both countries can shed light on which might be more expensive? I have been pretty surprised at how expensive Colombia has been so far. Any info would be appreciated. Also Colombia doesnt have much of a surf culture so equipment rentals and/or purchases are problematic here.

Thanks

You'd find it cheaper than Colombia -- especially staying in rural/beach areas (in most places outside the capital really)

It'll cost you a bit to get from Colombia to Panama though

Much more of a surf scene in Panama (equipment etc., even waves)

Panama might be more expensive. I don't find Colombia that expensive but I guess it depends.

In PAnama on the southern end of the Azuero Peninsula there are 3 prime surfing spots.
Pedasi which is getting expensive and is not recommend for a budget traveller nor long term
Playa Venao is priced alright
Cambutal is off the Gringo.surfing trail. It s rustic and real!

JPass and miamimikeshostel

Thanks for the really excellent information on places. I want to try to get off both the backpackers' trail and the tourist trail and explore some more out of the way places and hopefully find a break that isnt crowded.

Again many thanks
