2I've been traveling three months in Turkey with Bergama one of the highlights because I rose early to be one of the first at the site. Before crowds it is a neat site and more clearly obvious in structures than Troy and others. Remember in Bergama is also the Aesclepion, which, if you are interested in medicine is an interesting site. I also recommend the Gobi Pension for friendliness, helpfulness, and a respite from the busy center of Izmir. Ask for a room facing the garden to avoid street noise. Only one night in Bergama is pushing it but if you don't have the opportunity to see other antiquities this is a good one.

I'm doing Insight's 2-week "Treasures of Turkey" first, but we won't have time for the Acropolis in Bergama.
And then I have 8 more days before going home.
I thought I would fly from Istanbul to Izmir, and travel to Bergama and back by bus before flying to Gaziantep. Then by bus to Sanliurfa and Mardin.
I have seen the Acropolis in Athens, and Ephesus, and will be seeing Troy and others before Bergama.
Several others have recommended Gobi Pension.
