Suggestions for a good 30-40L allround bag

Hi folks,

I'm thinking about getting a new backpack to travel lighter. Currently I'm using a 55+5 litre bag but that's huge and now I'm thinking about cutting some stuff out and going for ~35L instead.

Usage will be fairly varied, long and short(~1-2 weeks) term backpacking, a bit of hiking, some other adventuring and I want a good allround pack that preferably can be used as hand luggage when flying.

But my problem is which bag to choose. I'm currently looking at the Osprey Talon 33, an alternative is Marmot Draken 35. Has anybody tried any of these bags? Can you recommend another bag in the same size-range? 30-40L. Money isn't a huge issue since these bags doesn't seem too expensive, most appear to cost around $100-200.

I'm going to go for the Lowe Alpine Airzone Centro 35+10 - go and try it on, you'll never look back...

I have Kelty 35L I'm happy with.

Try a few on and go with the one that fits you best.

Good luck.

What are you taking with you? What types of activities do you intend to do? Trekking? Carrying sleeping bags? Laptop?

Are you a tall male or an average height female? This all makes a difference.

I'm an average height female, currently on an 8 month trip, and my backpack is a 25L (which is mostly not very full). Personally I can't understand what everyone else takes that takes up so much room. If you ask me, I think 35L is too big.

What country are you in? If you are in Australia or New Zealand I'd highly recommend Macpac.

Check out the Osprey bags, they are great and lightweight! I am travelling with a 70L pack (it's a 53L pack + 15L day pack!) it's lightweight and portable! i would have loved to have gone lighter however unfortunately i am a photographer and blogger so need electronics, and also need a sleeping bag for a tour i'm doing and also I'm crossing climates (snow & sun!)! Compression sacks will become your best friend, check out sea to summit!
