Visiting Volcan Masaya without a car

Is it possible?
I know you can get off the bus on the carreterra at the park entrance, but we don't want to hike to the crater edge from the entrance.

I thought I heard about the park having trucks coming up and down from the entrance and bringing people up, or am I thinking of a different park?

We can't afford to go with a tour company either, so that is not an option.

If it matters, we are already in Masaya

I think maybe the guy at thr gate has a radio, so he can make a call. Don't know for sure. But if not, you just have to walk a little way to the ranger station, and then from there you can ride in a van. Then, when ready to return, there are people at the crater with radios to call for a ride.

Last time I did it I took a bus from Granada in to Masaya, then a cab to the crater, only cost a few dollars.

the walk is not hard and takes no more than 40 minutes, that's walking nice and slow...you can either walk the main paved road up to the crater or take the foot path which is well maintained and is super easy. otherwise walk on the main road and hitch, you'll be fine!

There are trucks at the entrance of the park that will take you to the crater and back down
