Last year, I camped backcountry in Denali and a grizzly bear came to my tent. I exited my tent but I stayed around, trying to persuade the grizzly to leave. The grizzly punched a hole in my tent with a paw, but then actually left. I also stayed maybe 2 to 5 minutes only a few meters from the grizzly.
And I acted just as I was instructed to act in such occasions. The NP authorities DO NOT INSTRUCT you to leave if the bear comes to your camp. When I reported the inceident, the ranger told me I had acted well.

By the way, just this month, a black bear was observing me in the morning while I was packing up my camp in the Grand Teton NP. It was about 30 meter away, and stayed there for half an hour. I also passed a large black bear and her young cub, they were just 10 to 20 meter away from the trail. They did not run away or move, I just passed.
