6 weeks trip - looking for tips on Salta, Atacama, TdP & Penins. ValdesHello fellow travel fiends,
We have a 6 week trip planned around Argentina with a few hops into Chile in October/November this year. Our loop goes as follows and we were wondering if anyone please had any key tips on transport, hikes, guides, drives and unique sights?
Our plan is as follows:
BA to Iguazu (Any things not to be missed in BA?)
Iguazu to Salta
Around Salta (Rent a car and explore) (Best places for scenery and fun places to stay?)
Salta to Atacama desert (Anyone taken public transport to and from the Atacama recently? Is it safe and reliable?)
Salta to Mendoza (explore around)
Mendoza to El Calafate (Cannot find any flights that are not via BA - any tips or recommendations?)
El Calafate, Chalten - TdeP and Perito Moreno. (Any favourite hikes, tour guides and places to say?)
El Calafate to Peninsula Valdes (Any flights to and from here? Has anyone taken this train journey and would recommend it?)
Peninsula Valdes to BA
Thank you so much for any extra information - really appreciated.

1Good places to stay and explore around Salta are Tilcara and Purmamarca and Cafayate and Cachi. Many sidetrips possible from all of these 4 places. Bus services to Atacama are reliable. It is a paved road, no problem at all.
Mendoza to El Calafate flights are expensive. You could op to skip Mendoza as you have already been to the aera of Salta and take a flight down south from BA to El Calafate, or better Ushuaia and the n bus it up north. Ushuaia offers a lot in terms of scenery, history and wildlife and there are very good hikings too.

2I second the idea of adding Ushuaia. So much to do outdoors near there. Tierra del Fuego National park was beautiful. Also when planning time in El Calafate and El Chalten I would plan more time for El Chalten and less in El Calafate. El Chalten is more beautiful and pristine and has way more trekking nearby. Also, since the weather can change quickly at high elevation, if Fitzroy and Cerro Torre are covered in clouds you want some flexibility in your schedule so you can actually see what you came all that way to see. El Calafate is a much bigger, built up, and sprawling town and IMO outside of Perito Moreno there aren't that many must sees.
