HELP payment MP denied??!?

Hi

I have just tried to make a payment through MP website to pay the MP entrance fees and I came across this:

WE ARE SO SORRY BUT FOR HIGH SEASON: Your payment temporarily can not be processed; We would appreciate you make the payment at the following locations:
http://www.machupicchu.gob.pe/items/puntosPago.html
If you have any additional question, please contact us by email (callcenter@drc-cusco.gob.pe) or by telephone (51 84) 582030

I do not way it refused my payment? what do I need to do now? try to purchase the ticket again or wait to see whether they detracted the cost of the ticket from my account?

They do not currently accept or it's better to say Visa do not currently accept online payments through their website due to high levels of fraud - there is a notice displayed stating this as you enter the site.

You can only buy tickets in advance if you are in Cusco so you have to book it through an agency. If by some misfortune your card has been deducted you can reclaim this through your card provider.

Thanks Inglorious, I did not read it as I thought it was saying that Visa is accepted, my bad! I only hope that the payment did not go through.

So basically you're saying that I cannot purchase that ticket from the UK unless I buy it through an agency?

Unfortunately so - Peru's payment methods are stupidly restricted making doing business here challenging, even for government bodies.

I seem to remember you mentioning that you'll be travelling in the low season so getting permits whilst here in Cusco shouldn't be a problem.

It probably won't have been deducted from your account, check with your bank though. As far as I know the website you booked through is the official government website so isn't a scam. We booked online in Cusco on that website a couple of days before travel and had no problems. You can check online without booking how many tickets are left for the date you want to visit. If it is looking worrying then as #1 says you can go through an agency or various hotels in Cusco. I didn't have to do this so can't offer further advice I'm afraid but plenty of people on here can.

Getting the tickets to Macchu Picchu wont probably be a problem but getting Huyana Picchu tickets is difficult

Here is where the problem comes in. I think someone told you a few days ago that all Machu Picchu tickets include Huaynapicchu, they were wrong. I was sure that they didn't but said nothing because they were from the region. If you want a ticket that includes Huaynapicchu it costs more. Machu Picchu is 128, including Huaynapicchu is 152. I just got that off the government website seconds ago. There are far less tickets available that include Huaynapicchu. For examle, if you look online now for tomorrow there are 759 tickets available for Machu Picchu which costs128, there are no tickets left that include Huaynapicchu which costs 152. There are no tickets left for Huaynapicchu until next Tuesday, and thats for the early trip, if you want to do the later trip there is 1 left next Wednesday.

Keeping in mind that you say you will be there in mid September I would find someone on the internet who can tell you where to get Huaynapicchu tickets in advance from outside Cusco. Just to be on the safe side.

Hi all, thanks for your replies!

I'm landing in Lima on 13th sept. and was planning to visit MP on 20th sept.,
As you mentioned above I should be able to visit MP anyway on that date as I will a week to buy it and if I'm not wrong mid sept is not high season. That being said, I think #5 is right saying that I could have some problems trying to purchase a huaynapicchu ticket and I almost certain that buying a cheap train ticket to and from MP might be less convenient as most of the cheapest ticket would have already gone by midsept.

Is your Visa registered as "Verified by Visa" program? If not it usually doesn't work in Peru, that might be an issue, but I can't guarantee....

We are traveling in mid September and all the cheap train tickets were already sold out. We purchased the next best rate. If you are planning on hiking HP purchasing tickets in advance is best, even with an additional fee. I emailed the MP government site re: not being able to purchase my tickets and this is the response:

We are so sorry but Visa had so many problems with stolen and cloned cards that they preferred to cancel the payment system from abroad, all foreign card payments are suspended due to the high level of fraud presented.

If you have already employed a hotel o some service in Cusco they are able to help you to purchase your ticket.
Another option is to contact to some travel agency.
On our website www.machupicchu.gob.pe - Consultas (Queries)- agency, you can see the list of the travel agency.
Remember that you have 6 hours to make the payment or your reservation will be cancelled.

However if you will able to be in Peru and see that there available spaces for Machupicchu, you will able to book in Peru in the follow website www.machupicchu.gob.pe and pay in the following office:

throughout Perú
• Any office of the Banco de la Nación; Hours of Availability: Monday to Friday from 8:00 - 17:30 hrs and Saturday from 9:00 - 13:00hrs. Only you can pay in cash (Peruvian currency). you can just pay
In Cusco,
• In our authorized offices located on Av. De la Cultura Nº238 Condominio Huascar Wanchaq. Hours availability from Monday to Saturday 07:00 – 18:00hrs and Sunday 07:00 – 12:00. you can book and pay
• The AATC (Association of voyages and travel agencies) located on Calle Nueva Baja N º 424, Cusco - Peru Phone: (084) 22-2580. Hours of availability: Monday to Friday from 9:00 - 16:00hrs. you can pay just with Visa Card
• DIRCETUR (regional direction of trade and tourism) located on Portal de Mantas 117-A, a 50 mts. to the main square (Plaza de Armas) you can pay just with Visa Card.

However if you see that the tickets sold out is better to contact to some travel agency, on our website www.machupicchu.gob.pe - Consultas (Queries)- agency, you can see the list of the travel agency.
If you have already employed a hotel o some service in Cusco they are able to help you to purchase your ticket.
Another option is to contact to some travel agency.

Thanks for your understanding.

Sincerely,
Syntia Magali Cama.
