Melbourne for business

Is it a big hassle flying into Avalon? Or worth it for the cheaper flights?
And between the Mercure Welcome and Ibis in the CBD is one especially better than the other, to anyone's knowledge?

No sleight aganst the Ibis (both of them) I have stayed with them, but go the Mercure!

The next time I go over, I will be doing the Mercure way, ...

The Ibis near the Queen Victoria Markets, is a bit of a walk from the tram (both roads the trams use are a bit far off from the Ibis).

The Ibis near Southern Cross is also a bit of a walk from Southern Cross Spencer St. Its also up a hill!

The Mercure Treasury Garden on Spring, near Parliament Station. Flat walk as well!

OR the Mercure Welcome at only Aud$109. Right on corner of Little Bourke & Swanston.

Can't say about Avalon, as I have not used it.

BUT, I would keep using Tullamarine, the Skybus trip is easy peasy, ...

I would steer clear of Avalon to Melbourne. If it is peak hour traffic in or out you will spend longer than 50 minutes as is claimed. The train alternative from Lara/Geelong is problomatic as well, if its peak hour no seats etc.

Motels, no idea Daycat is the expert, thats where he takes his rental girlfriend(s) :=}

Rubber/vinyl/plastic/PVC clad ones you mean???

But they make too much noise.

I only do a Visit Them Only, not a VYO.

In my dreams of course, I would find a nice girl cat.

Ok, will shut up on this thread now.

Bit late, but I'd want to be saving at least $200 to make Avalon worthwhile for business.

Keep receipts, and claim as a legit expense on tax.

OP, I should have asked about where you are living now, and where you run your business, before I mentioned keeping the receipts for tax.

No use keeping receipts for tax, if you run your business in NZ.

I do my own bizzo, and keep receipts to claim on tax. ABN, no GST though, as I am below the reporting (IAS/BAS) treshold.

I can see the Bro's POV if a person hates Al Joyce.

obviously my opinion is too late - as someone who uses Avalon whenever they can, I would have weighed up price of flight plus the cost of getting into Melbourne from airport. If there was a major difference then, perhaps go with the cheaper. As someone mentioned time of day can be problematic getting through the outskirts of Melbourne, it can also be a pain getting from Tullamarine into the city. Peak hour traffic from either direction is horrendous.

Daycat - Alan Joyce is Qantas isn't he - sending our carrier down the gurgla like he has done before.

PoppyG I did that sum and Avalon ended up slightly cheaper. However, I had a cockup with the hotel booking and, since I am having to pay more than expected for the room, I want to arrive early enough to get my perceived money's worth from it and it seemed that the Avalon vs Tullamarine trip was going to be longer.

Interestingly (to some, maybe) my departing flight from Melbourne is on Tiger. I was surprised to find their website still live since I thought last year they shut down but as a tight-arse I was pleased to save a few $$ there.

Daycat, yes, it's on expenses but I like to save my clients money where I can. No, receipts won't help and I can't claim a GST credit either so Australia is simply a chance to catch up with friends while billing hours in between pissups.
