Cycling yunnan province
Hey guysBasically I would like to buy a bicycle in panzhihua and cycle through the yunnan province. Does anyone one have any tips for me?
Buying a bicycle I have heard is a breeze.
I'm an intermediate cyclist, what is the terrain like?
Will it be too cold in January?
I would also like to cycle into Laos or burma.
Which is easier to cross?
Also assuming I can buy panniers or a trailer there as well?
Any information would be sweet
ThAnks!

Forget Myanmar. Too costly as you need special permits, guides, etc.2
It will be cold in January but also on the plus side it's the dry season. And the road constructions slow down during winter. Many, many of the roads in northern Yunnan are under construction (other areas I don't know).3
I'm not a cyclist but some members and staff of GoKunming are. They occasionally post trip reports plus you might be able get some additional suggestions on routes, equipment and so forth by asking your questions there as well.http://www.gokunming.com/en/

Yes.

Can you cross at either border? I know Laos borders are open to Chinese, not sure if they are open to foreigners.

There are some good bikes shops in Kunming that I know of, should be able to purchase everything you need there.

The Laos border at Mohan/ Borten has been the only land crossing between China and Laos that has been open to foreigners and has been for a lot of years.6
Good to know. Thanks Westwood. It was Myanmar that I was thinking of, a friend is from a town close to the Myanmar border which only Chinese can cross. Sorry for the mis-information.7
Kurt...depends where you go...some flat some mountainous...some areas warm enough, higher altitudes quite cold.More info huh....???
Forget trying to crross by land into Myanmar...and yes it is easy to cross into Laos at the Boten border.
