Comoros Info

Some of the info in the LP guide is outdated. Here's a few brief tips.

Flights: There are daily flights from Nairobi to Moroni Via Mayotte on Kenya Airways. If traveling from mainland Africa to Madagascar, then the Comoros makes an interesting stop over. You can fly from Maroni to Majunga in Madagascar on Air Austral or to various places in Madagascar on Air Madagascar.

Visas: Tourist visas are issued on arrival at Moroni Airport. The cost is US$50 or 40 Euros. There is no longer any need to go into Moroni to get a visa at the immigration office.

ATM's / Money: There are now at least 6 ATM's in the Comoros that accept international Visa/Mastercard. In Moroni they are located at the Itsandra Beach Hotel, BFC and Exim banks in Moroni. There's also an ATM at BFC in Mutsamudu on Anjouan. There's a BFC foreign exchange counter at the Prince Said Ibrahim International Airport where you can change US Dollars or Euros.

Language: Kenyan/Tanzanian Swahili is sufficiently close to Comoros Swahili so you can communicate in Swahili instead of French if you have the LP Swahili book.

Best beaches: On Grande Comore, Maloudja Beach is stunningly beautiful. There's some simple bungalow's you can stay at located right near the beach. You will probably have the whole beach to yourself. The beach at Shamoni is also nice.

Thanks for the info!

Flights: There are daily flights from Nairobi to Moroni Via Mayotte on Kenya Airways.

AFAIK, those flights are only 5 times per week. Air Madagascar has a non-stop flight from Nairobi to Moroni once a week and it can be cheaper than Kenya Airways. BTW, there are also flights out of Tanzania (e.g.: with Precision Air).

Very helpful, thank you.
I don't suppose you know if Itsandra Plongee is still operating on Moroni? Or any other dive operation for that matter
Thanks
