Ometepe to MGA then on to the Corn Islands
I didn't see an updated / relevant thread on this one in the forum, so here it goes. Apologies if you've seen this question a million times. We're (2 of us) planning on leaving Ometepe on a Tuesday morning and catching our flight from MGA to the Corn Islands at 2pm. La Costena says to be there 90 minutes before the flight. So, we know we'll have to get from our Finca to Moyogalpa to catch the ferry over to San Jorge fairly early.
Here's the real dilemma. What's the least expensive way for us to get from San Jorge to MGA? And what have people paid recently whether it be through Paxeos (whose website is terrible - they want you to email them your credit card number to make a reservation, which is a great way for it to get stolen), a taxi, or going to Rivas and then catching a bus or whatever. How long did it take via taxi, Paxeos (or comparable transport company), or even bus? Obviously time is of the essence to make that flight. Thanks!

Share taxi San Jorge to Rivas 20 cordobas a head....bus Rivas to Managua is about 70 or so.Its not a very long trip......10 minutes for the first part and about 2.30-3 hours for the second.

If you leave on the 9 am ferry, you'll get in San Jorge between 10-10:30. Usually there is an express bus to Managua sitting at the dock. But, the last time we took the 9 am ferry, of course the bus wasn't there. It is definitely there earlier in the morning...for example the 6 am ferry. You can hop on the bus and it will take you to Roberto Humbes in Managua. I hate that place and try to avoid it like the plague. I really prefer the micro buses that take you to the UCA station, but they don't leave from Rivas. So, if you take the express bus, you will need to get a taxi from Roberto Humbes to take you to the airport. If you want a taxi to the airport, it is $60 from San Jorge. If you want the phone number of my favorite taxi driver...very reliable...PM me. I live on Ometepe Island, so we use Francisco when we need to make a trip to Managua. I have used Paxeos many times to be picked up from the airport to go to Granada, but never to be picked up in San Jorge. It's very expensive...more than a taxi. Don't worry about entering your credit card number for Paxeos...I've done it many, many times and never had a problem.3
Lucapal - thanks for the response on the buses..we'll definitely keep that in mind. I'm assuming it would drop us at Roberto Huembes or UCA and then we'd need to either catch another bus or a taxi at that point?Gypsytoes - How long does the express bus take to get to Roberto Huembes from San Jorge? Any idea on the cost? Any idea on how much a taxi to MGA (from Roberto Huembes) should cost? I just don't want to get over-charged since, from experience, some taxi drivers will attempt to charge you as much as they can get away with. I'd read that most anything in Managua will cost $1 (~23 Cords), but since the airport is a little bit further out, I'm sure it'll be more expensive.
Oh and as of today (8.16.12), Paxeos wants you to email them your credit card # as their online reservation system is screwed up. Obviously they have no inkling of cybersecurity.
