Sicily - staying on an island & snorkeling vs staying on mainland sicily
Hello,My partner and I are going to Sicily for 8 days in early September. The first 2 days we will be staying in Palermo, the others are to be decided!
We were thinking of staying on one of the small islands around Sicily (Ustica, etc) because we like a) snorkelling, b) walking, and c) eating!
If we stay on an island, I am worried that we will end up being isolated and wish we were staying on Sicily itself, doing day trips to good snorkelling locations.
Can anyone advise?
Anyone stayed on one of the islands?
Anyone have a favourite snorkeling spot, which is also tied in with good eating? Yes I am being very vague, I do apologise!
Thanks a lot,
Melanie

If you are really keen on your snorkelling you can do it from Ustica, though it is much more famous for diving. You will need to take boat trips from Ustica to get to the best spots.Other possibilities are Marettimo off Trapani and the Aeolian islands, esp.Panarea and Vulcano.
On the mainland there is the coast around San Vito/ Zingaro Reserve....
All these places have decent snorkelling. And the food is good in general..everywhere in Sicily.
Zingaro has some nice walking too.Ustica is pretty hot and bare...its not great for walking.
