9 days in Portugal – suggested itinerary?

Hi there,

The wife and I are flying into Lisbon on the morning of August 25 and flying out early on September 3. We’re looking to spend a few days in Lisbon then potentially head down to the Algarve and chill on beaches/enjoy nightlife, also do some sightseeing. Looking for suggested itineraries – would there be time to do Porto as well?

Any recommendations appreciated!

Hi,

I'm sending a link which may help- it gives details on different regions in Portugal. http://www.hideawayportugal.com/modules/home/home.php

There is a regular train service up to Porto- 3 hours, although I think that if you're heading down to the Algarve, then it may be a bit to much to squeeze in. Personally. I'd split the 9 days between Lisbon/Sintra/beaches to west of Lisbon and then head down to the Algarve. If you want something a bit quieter and more natural, head to the west coast of the Algarve/Baixo Alentejo. Eastern area around Tavira is charming.

Have a good trip!

Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking Porto might be difficult to squeeze in...don't want to spend all my time travelling.

In terms of the Algarve, we were thinking of Lagos - any other good recommendations in that area?

Hi,

Just got back from Portugal myself. I agree w/ what Bruce2012 says. Sintra is an absolute must see, in my opinion. It's absolutely gorgeous and it's worth a full day's visit. Train travel there from Lisbon is easy and cheap from Rossio station.

I spent a day at the Estoril beaches; the train to Estoril (from Cais do Sodre station) stops directly across from the beach.

Enjoy your trip. Lisbon and the surrounding area was absolutely spectacular!

Hi again,

Yes, Lagos is a good choice if you want a mix of historical city plus tourist services and activities. You'll find plenty to do here. Coastline is scenic, with coves and clear seas. Plenty of trips available. Take a trip out to Sagres cape and then the coastline north of this (west coast) is stunning and untouristy- including Carrapateira, Aljezur. Cliffs, empty beaches, surfing. http://www.hideawayportugal.com/modules/property/region_detail-7.htm
