Renting a car to Hvar??

I am spending 7 days in Croatia, arriving in Dubrovnik and departing from Zadar. I will spend 3 nights in Hvar. I was considering driving from Dubrovnik to Split and taking a ferry to Hvar and then back to Split and driving to Zadar (all with the same car). I heard Hvar is quite small and to consider not driving into the island but going by boat which is faster. What is the condition for driving and parking in Hvar? Should I drive into the island with a rented car or not?

Hi,

Hvar is not that small and you should be OK, with rented car or not, but it pretty much depends on what time of day you arrive. Do you have parking secured with you accommodation?

What you can do is take a ferry from Dubrovnik to Hvar via Korcula, I believe, and avoid driving to Split. Take ferry from Hvar to Split and then drive to Zadar. Are you going this month - it should be very busy down there until the beginning of September, after which it starts quieting down. Its beautiful - wish I could go. Enjoy your trip!

If you wish to explore the island, take the car, since you plan on renting one anyway.
Hvar island is quite elongated with many villages besides the main town of Hvar.

Thanks. I am staying at Amfora Hotel. I will check if they provide parking.
I heard about the ferry from Dubrovnik to Hvar but could not find where to see the schedule and buy ticket. Do you know where I can find it?

I don't think there is a direct ferry from Dubrovnik to Hvar, unfortunately. First you take a ferry to Korcula, and then Katamaran (speedy passengers only boat) from Korcula to Split and it stops at Hvar on the way. So, I guess its not very practical - especially if you want to drive around Hvar.

I think Jadolinija sails Split - Hvar (the port name is Stari Grad, short bus ride from Hvar town) - Korcula - Dubrovnik daily in high season.
