Stopover Phuket- Samui

Hi all I'm flying into Phuket from Bali on the 22nd august unfortunately my flight arri es at 3pm which I think is too late for the last trip to koh Samui. I'm looking to go somewhere for an evening somewhere maybe between the two so I can get a ferry early the next morning. Ive heard Surat Thani is horrid so don't fancy there and I'm not a massive fan of Phuket having stayed there twice before (Phuket town and nai yang bay). Preferably I'd like somewhere easy from the airport if possible. Thanks in advance - Louise

Surat Thani is not horrible. It’s just not an exciting town for tourists. However, spend one night before morning ferry to Samui is idea location.

There are flights to Samui from Phuket at 1600 and 1905 with Bangkok Airways, you could make either.

^ Probably the easiest option, but not the cheapest. You could alternatively still try to make the night ferry, or else head to Krabi town for the night and go to ST the next day.

There are minibuses that run to Surat Thani until 5pm. You could take one of these and spend the night in Surat, which I think is a great option. I have spent many nights in Surat and don't think it is too bad. Plus, the night market makes it worthwhile.

I agree with guavagirl, Surat Thani isn't that bad and not too bad a place to spend one night. As she says the night market is worthwhile.

By staying in Surat Thani, you at least get most of the travelling out of the way that first day and then it's just a short bus and ferry ride to Samui.

Your other option would be to stay in Krabi Town for the night and then make it over to Samui, personally I would just do the journey to Surat Thani in the one day and then stay there.

Personally, I'd go for Krabi overnight as it's a much shorter trip from the airport after having had a flight from Bali and a nicer town than ST, but it's 6 of one...

Yea could be a good shout - I've been to Krabi before so I know a hostel I can stay in.
Thanks
