Visa FAQ

I'm applying for a Visitor Visa to come to Taiwan next month, and I have a few questions that I haven't been able to get definitive answers to:

1) I'm applying at the TECO in Seattle, and I'd like to know, assuming that they approve my application, when will the clock start on my 60-day visa? Does it start on the date that I submit the application, the date I receive the visa, or the date I arrive in Taiwan?

2) The application has a section for "reference details in taiwan", but seeing as I have never been to Taiwan I have no contacts to put down. I read that this shouldn't be a problem for general visa apps. Is this true?

3) The visa application instructions list the price of a single entry visa at US $50, but the processing fee for Americans is $160 (Aren't we lucky :D). Should I pay the combined fee, or just the US fee?

Best Regards

I got my visa from the Seattle TECO today. I got the 60 day, extendable. They didn't ask any questions about not having a reference in Taiwan. They even apparently felt that my 65cent first class stamped and addressed return envelope wasn't sufficient. So they sent my passport back priority mail (an extra $3.15) and they paid $2.95 to send it certified, at no extra charge to me. I guess that's the kind of service you get for $160.

Now I'm trying to find out if airlines will let me fly one-way with a visitor visa, since I'm obviously gonna try to extend that sucker. I read that I might need to buy an onward ticket to HK, or I see tickets from TPE to Manila for $70. Does anyone know if this will be necessary to satisfy the airline/ROC authorities?

I almost forgot: the visa has to be used in the next 5 years, so sometime before August 2017 :)
