HI card in Mexico/Central America and South America
Hi,Myself and my girlfriend are travelling to Mexico/Central America and South American in October for 5 months and I was wondering is it worth my while getting a HI card and if so what one to get,
I will be spending roughly 3 weeks in Mexico, 5 in Central America and 3 months travelling through South America and eventually flying home from Rio at the end of Feb,
Any help is appreciated,
G

Hostelling International.Years ago, I got a Lifetime membership so I don't need to continually renew the card. It's always good to have.
In Belize, there are not very many hostels, and none are are connected to HI, so a card isn't going to be any benefit here.
I haven't looked at the HI website recently, but if there are a lot of hostels where you're going, then I'd say renew it. But if there aren't a lot of hostels, don't renew it because hotels and independent backpacker places are cheap.

Thanks for you replies,We are considering getting a sailboat via Panama’s San Blas Islands to Cartagena. Any recommendations?
If that is not possible we will have to get a flight
Thanks,
