Sydney New Years Accomodation

Hi all,

I have had a bit of a look through the forum but had no joy with this topic.

Does anybody have any suggestions for somewhere for my girlfriend and I to stay in Syndey over the new years period? Cheap hotels or double room hostel is what we're after. We're staying for 5 nights from the 28th December, everywhere I look has long minimum stay requirements!

help!

Thanks

Many people book months in advance for Sydney over NYE

I will let others advise you or maybe even correct me but it may be worth checking gumtree and seeing if you can house share for the week or something like that if you want to keep the price down?

I land Dec 10th and a friend is letting me and my girlfriend crash with her over NYE to keep our prices down so maybe you could find something similar?

Not much joy to be had on this topic I'm afraid. You are about 4 months too late to find any decent accommodation, and NYE in Sydney is never going to be cheap. In past years I have seen people saying that there is accommodation to be had at some of the universities, as the unis are on holidays in the summer. I don't know anything about it, but the major universities in Sydney are University of Sydney, University of NSW and Macquarie University (a bit further out). You might check their websites and see if anything pops up.

I've stayed in unis before, but that was a long time ago and not a NYE. As others have said its never cheap over NYE, usually a 7 day minimum booking, plus many australians travel then as well. If you want to stay near the harbour, take what you can find, pay for a week even if you only want 5 days. Otherwise look further west in Sydney for places to stay and catch the train.

Yes, you will have to look further out - look for somehting not glamourous, but on transport routes. You could try beach side locations like Manly, Bondi, Coogee etc, but suspect you will have similar problems.

Thanks everyone. Its still over 4 months away so though I'd have a shot at finding something reasonable... the search continues!

hostelworld.com has a few options with no minimum stay, two unis (UWS and Macquarie) and also the Central Private Hotel. Not many inexpensive private rooms left so if you find one, take it - some of the prices are astounding - $130 a night for a a bed in an 8-bed dorm!

also check wotif.com

Yeah 4 months out for NYE in Sydney is too late :-) But I guess you know that now!
Good luck.
