Xmas & New Years in India - ?????Hello, I'm backpacking for the first time through India coming in from Nepal mid December. I'll probably cross land border and head to Varanasi first. Wondering if I plan to spend 2-3 months in India, is there a particular area based on weather I should start first? Is there any particular place in India that's known to be awesome to be in for Xmas or New Year? I'm looking to experience everything so whether it's thrill, beach, safari, ygoa, meditation - I'm down and want to experience it all, so all suggestions appreciated. General itinerary route will be much appreciated as well. The areas recommended thus far were:
Any places that I should add to this in the timeframe that i'll be there? Thanks in advance to anyone that responds to this post!!!

Goa is party central for New Year's craziness. But don't go there if you are not comfortable with crowds, traffic chaos and half (or pretending to be full) drunken men. Just be careful.
The Golden Temple in Amritsar is another awesome place to visit.
Toy train from Kalka to Shimla is a delightful experience for the stunning scenery en route to Shimla from Kalka.

4Agree with torontomm on the weather part.
From Varanasi, you should go to Goa (Xmas and new year). Then do:
Madurai and some Tamil Nadu temples
Goa (again). At this point , Jan must be over.
Rajasthan (Udaipur is a part of it)
Delhi (I assume that is where you willw be flying out of)

5So, if Goa is a bit too much party-party, does anyone have an alternative recommendation? Somewhere with a good vibe and a good time but not so hectic?
Any other events that happen around New Years that i should be getting tickets to??
