Climbing Mt. Santubong as a day trip from Kuching

I'm heading to Kuching in a couple of weeks and if time/weather permits, I'd like to climb Mt. Santubong one day. I'd be going midweek, so I don't think it would be too busy. I'd like to do it as a day trip from Kuching and I want to know if there's still public transport available between Kuching and Damai. I've read that there's a shuttle (RM 12) that leaves regularly from outside the Hotel Grand Margherita, with the first one leaving Kuching at 7:30am, and the last one leaving Damai at 9pm. Do any of you know if that's still accurate?
From what I've read, it takes between 4-7 hours (up and down) to do the climb. I'm in pretty good shape and go hiking in the mountains every weekend, so I'd think 5-6 hours shouldn't be a problem. But I've also read that there are a few different trails. Any of you have any preferences for which one to take?
And if for some reason I can't catch a shuttle back to Kuching, any idea how much a taxi should cost?

Thanks,

Jason

Saw some info about the shuttle: http://www.malaysiahotelreview.com/sarawak/destination/taman-budaya.shtml which has a schedule from Grand Margherita Hotel (formerly Holiday Inn).

While this shuttle departs for Damai Beach & Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV), it will pass by the spot where you would like to start the hike. The question is whether the shuttle driver is willing to drop you off here.

I tried to check SCV's official website on shuttle schedule (or route map) but couldn't find it.

Hey, thanks for that link, yk2cf. Unfortunately, the information seems to be from September 2006, so I'm not sure how accurate that is anymore.
I'll probably just pop into the Kuching Visitors' Centre when I arrive there. They should be able to help me out.

No worries. I think it might be outdated but the frequency of departures should be quite plenty. All the best!

OP - were you able to hike Santubong? I'll be in Kuching July 1 and would like to do the same as a day trip.

Thanks.
