Mama and Papaboutworld's annual visit

Hello there

Mama and Papaboutworld arrive for their annual trip to see me on Friday 31st August - Monday 17th August 2012. I'm currently working in Kuala Lumpur and will be off work for the entire time except from Friday 7th (evening)and Saturday 8th (morning till evening). when I unfortunately must be in KL.

I've been in Malaysia a while now but would rather appreciate anyone's handy tips and offerings on where they have been and how good it was etc. I want them to have a holiday to remember.

Background

Last year Mama and Papaboutworld got hauled around Indonesia for 2 weeks straight (Jakarta - Flores - Gili - Bali - home), sleeping on boat floors and such like and although they had a lovely time I think a slower pace is required this time.

This will be their second time to Asia. Papaboutworld has been to the US but apart from that it's usually somewhere safe in Europe.

Mamaboutworld has a dodgy knee.

They are energetic grandparents but aren't exactly marathon runners.

They really love snorkeling, eating, seeing cultural things, visiting old stuff etc WIldlife, walking, Mamaboutworlds childhood dream is to have an elephant ride but I'm not sure it's fair on the elephant. She also likes children and local village type stuff. Mamaboutworld also enjoys cake but has been put off some spicy foods after the unfortunate inhalation of a chili incident in Ubud. I'm not sure if time has been a healer or not. Papaboutworld enjoys keeping everyone else happy, mechanical or interesting sciencey things (he's a software engineer). spicy food (any food) how things are made etc and photography.

Things they don't like. Lots of hills and stairs (Batu Caves is fine),basting on the beach, packagey type holidays, malls (except Papaboutworld will love the Plaza Low..), they burn fairly easily, Mamaboutworld can get seasick / coach / motion sick but did manage the 4 days on a boat last year.

Budget. hmm they have spent rather a lot on flights. In KL they will stay in my place so no cost there. Maybe RM50 - 100 per night else where? Looking for some free stuff to do but also can pay for nice things tool. Any suggestions are welcome. It's not my budget so the choice is theirs! (although I will have to go a long with it!).

The main issue is the getting back to KL in the middle of it all which is sadly unavoidable. We can't bear to be parted for a few days so it's all together we travel. I did fancy the Perintheans but I'm worried there will be bugger all to do if it rains so Langkawi could be an option as flights are cheap around then too. Any recommendations for Thailand for the night from there? Also was thinking about the Elephant place outside of KL, with the Elephant Man as tour guide.
