Chennai-Goa-Mumbai-Chennai

I am planning to go goa next weekend, for 4nights and 5 days. My wife suggested to combine Mumbai for four days on return, I thought Mumbai is near to Goa, so without checking the distance, I booked return flight ticket first from Mumbai to Chennai. Now I realized Mumbai is far away from Goa, (12 hours by train). My friends also saying combining goa and mumbai is not a good idea, I am confused, my wife said cancel flight tickets mumbai to chennai and rebook goa to chennai. But when I checked with airline, its too costly to cancel and rebook.

I also booked Goa to Mumbai train ticket, since I have no idea about places around Mumbai, I booked from Goa to Kalyan junction, later I realized Kalyan junction is very far away from Mumbai Central. So I am thinking of getting down in Panvel station (one station before Kalyan jn), Is that right idea? The train reaches early morning 6:30an to Panvel.

I have following doubts:
How to travel from Panvel to Mumbai Central?
Will the trains are frequent from Panvel to Mumbai to Central? Will it be comfortable having luggage and family with two kids?
Suggest good economy hotels in Mumbai Central.
Any other suggestions are welcome.

I am confused, my wife said .......

Buddy, you are listening too much to your wife and worrying too much and going crazy with all the planning. Just get out of your house and start travelling and learning and you will find out how far Goa is from Mumbai.

Will it be comfortable having luggage and family with two kids?

You have my guarantee , it will not be comfortable with all the luggage, two kids and a wife who will be constantly asking you to "cancel this and book that" but it will be just like home !

Agree with #3.I like the guarantee. We all know, with any travel, there is discomfort. We plan partly to lesson that discomfort. And we accept it.Travel and learn.Good Luck..

Its' sound Good ""Buddy""... but be a man.... listen each one and do whatever your heart saying just get up take your bag and come India. If you are coming Mumbai then its also nice. From Mumbai to Goa is about 9 hours journey and its about 600 km but it would be nice journey and you will love to do this. ;) best of luck for your trip.. enjoy

Not really, I just just looked at his location on the original post, and it said India.
Hardly rocket science, but clearly beyond the intelligence of a fat jewboy !

combine Mumbai for four days on return

This is doable as long as you are reasonable. Even with luggage and family with two kids

How to travel from Panvel to Mumbai Central?

Why in the world are you focused on Mumbai central??

The airport (to chennai) is in Santacruz . You can actually live near Panvel/Chembur, do some Mumbai sightseeing and goto Santacruz by Taxi.

If you insist , you can go from Panvel to Mumbai Central By Bus (slow) or the famous Mumbai Local Train. (Panvel is on Harbour line you have to change trains twice )
