i'm not a regular (yet) but i'm hoping to make this forum a regular place to chat.I generally only get the chance for one holiday a year (money poor instead of time poor!) but our next trip is likely to be 2months in the Northern Territory, Australia. Been before but love it there so will go again. There's always more to see as the kids get older.

Bummers -- I didn't answer your other post because I don't know much about the areas you mention, but on Monday we drove from Mayenne (west of Paris) down to Toulouse. This was after being in Nantes on Thursday night/Friday morning. You don't seem to want a city break, but Nantes was great, as I told Liberat. We stayed in a good, clean hotel for 55€ for a double, breakfast extra. Parking too, but street parking was free in summer so it was just a case of finding a place not too far away. Lots of art installation and exhibition stuff going on in summer.
You could head south towards the coast, although given your links, nothing will compare to the beaches in Australia. Not right on the coast though. We stopped to picnic south of Poitiers (once it stopped raining), near Limoges (meh) to visit a very old church, then in Cahors to walk around in the sun. But that's a bit far south for you already.
You could also just take the train to Bordeaux -- 3 hours -- then rent a car there for going around the area. Dordogne is indeed nice and you don't even need to speak French.

#Bummers, I also saw and remember your post. We often went to the south and seldom went through - for instance - Limoges.A possible itinerary (parts of it driven in different trips):
...after Orléans:
- Neung-le-Beuvron (scenery, birds, beuvrons);
- Romorantin-Lanthenay (da Vinci street plan)
- Valencay (castle)
- As above Périgueux,
- Sarlat-la-Canéda (medieaval town),
- Domme (old, 'fortified', panorama on Dordogne),
- Beynac (castle)
- Bergerac (Dordogne boulevard) -
- St. Emilion (wine)
- Bordeaux.
a post about the drive I'm planning to make from/to Paris on here, but haven't gotten much love..!!
Enough love I hope?-)
P.S. bjd's advice about train to Bordeaux and then car makes sense IMO. Then incorporate Dune de Pyla on a sunny day.
Note: sorry, a bit off-topic. But on-topic: I forgot to mention in my earlier posting the trip to the Languedoc area and share Nautiker's review about Montpellier. Also interesting: Aigues-Mortes. Pretty cold this spring and at the coast more windy than I ever felt. Inland the Lubéron (and Mont Ventoux) was great as ever. If you want to stand in the wind in a 45 degree position, just try the Mont Ventoux...
And Sault was a pretty, charming little town.
A nice drive/ride is from Sault through the gorges de la Nesque to Bédoin (or Malaucéne) and continue a loop across the Mont Ventoux back to Sault.
Everybody much fun in upcoming trips (and ideas to share with us)

Congratulation Aribo!!Next trip will be in Oct. but don't know where we go to depends on the weather, if it's nice here in Europe maybe we'll finally make it to Belgium, if not we'll see where a cheap flight will take us.
We went to Namibia in May and that was fantastic just to short, as always.
My dream is a RTW trip staying at places as long as visa regulations let us, move on if we get bored with a place, like start in Canada go to South America, over to Australia, South Sea, SEA,
China, India, somewhere in Africa including South Africa, hope we have the money and energy when we retire, my dad did so I hope thumbs up for us too.

thanks guys, i'm feeling the love now...maybe not a dream vacation, but just a dream "travel-related thing" for me was to live in Europe and, as a young Australian, not live in London. I got 4 years out of Paris, so am pretty happy with that.
My new idea for "dream vacation" has become to do an "adventure holiday" - not sure what to call it, but a trip revolving around achieving something, like climbing a mountain, or riding a notable stretch on a bike, or ... i dunno yet, i'm still trying to figure it out. so, my point is, i know what my dream vacation is, i just don't know where it is yet.

Just came back from 4 weeks in Canada (Vancouver Island, Rockies, Kootenays, Vancouver). Wish I was back there, I always hate coming home.42
Clementis -- maybe you could go on some rides at Disneyland (or Disneyworld or whatever the one in Orlando is called) until you get nauseous -- that might take away the desire to smoke.43
my dream vacation would be Machu Picchu and surrounds. But by the time the kids are old enough to hike it i'll be too old!44
My global plans for next 8 months : most are tentative only due to an Indian passport :(Montenegro next month (visa approved),
Netherlands / Germany / Czech / Austria / Liechtenstein / Switzerland / Italy in October 2012 (visa balance),
New Zealand in December 2012 (visa balance),
Australia in February 2013, since I am already in mud with Oz visa officer at Dubai Aussie visa means WTF ,
Peru + Ecuador in April 2013 (Visa already in PP).
I do have 6 vacation a year so quite often I am too confused ;)
