Boat MV Frances Barkley from Port Alberni to Bamfield, BC, Canada?
Is anyone familiar with the boat ride from Port Alberni to Bamfield, BC? In particular, do you recommend staying a night in Bamfield and returning to Port Alberni the next day? If so, do you know a good place to stay in Bamfield? The boat ride is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., so a lot of boat in one day, but maybe the stopover in Bamfield doesn't offer a lot? We aren't kayaking, I don't think, and probably not fishing either. Thanks. If possible, please Reply to wells107@comcast.netDave Wells

Been on the boat twice and it is a nice day on the water - if the weather is nice. Not much around Bamfield and it might end up being a long wait for the boat to arrive the next day. UBC does have a research station there which is worth a look and might have accomodation(?).
If you do not have anything specific planned the time you get for the layover in Bamfield while the boat unloads and loads would be lots to have a look around.
Be sure to pick a day with nice weather if you can.

"Not much around Bamfield...."Well how about a boat trip on the open Pacific Ocean, local beaches
Keeha , Bradys , Pachena or the West Coast Trail for a day hike?
Honestly that's the dumbest thing I've ever seen you post here.

Bamfield is beautiful, but it's very small. Why are you going there? If you aren't kayaking or fishing, what about hiking? There are some really nice hikes (muddy, though) there, and some great beaches (Keeha, Brady's). The West Coast trail starts there, and you can hike out to Pachena Point Lighthouse and back (~20km loop) in a day.For places to stay, your options are the Hawk's Nest Inn on the east side, or a variety of B&B's on either side. I'd go for the B&B's, the people there are lovely.
