Going to Sicily, from Bournemouth? Comparing it with Turkey?

Always wanted to go to Sicily. Is it expensive? Also how would I get there conveniently if I live in Bournemouth? Like snorkeling, beaches relaxing and hiking, where is recommended? Budget travel?

I was also thinking of going to Turkey, how do the two compare? Which is better?

You're missing the point of travel.

One blames their crime on the other. Same everywhere.

Compare's aaaaaaass!

Actually one is more full of Turls than the other. You have to fiind out which by yourself.

Ok...I'll try to give you a fair answer.Even if your post maybe merits the other answers that you got above ;-)

Is is expensive? It is Western Europe. You could get by on 70 euros a day...100 a day would be better. That is living quite basically, not luxury.A small room or a hostel bed,a cheap lubch, dinner in a local budget cafe or trattoria....the odd drink, some admission fees, local transport etc.

Don't know if that is 'expensive'...depends on you.

I guess the nearest place to you to fly from would be Gatwick..I'm not aware of any flights into Sicily from the south coast of England.Easyjet fly every day from Gatwick for 20 euros and up......

There are plenty of beaches, rather less snorkelling (though its possible). Some hiking.....also depends on the season. It is extremely hot in summer which may limit your trekking.

It is a lrge island, and slow to travel around. And there is a lot to see.For most people the highlights are more food, culture, ancient sites rather than natural stuff, though of course that exists as well. For the nicest beaches etc. you would need to rent a car....

On the comparison with Turkey...I don't know where to start!

Have you been to Turkey before?

There is very little similarity between (say) Istanbul,Cappadocia and the Med.tourist resorts like Marmaris.

I suppose the seasons are similar, though Turkey is colder in winter.Food is very good in both IMO.Turkish people are more open and 'friendlier' to strangers (at least those who deal with tourists and can speak English).Turkey is cheaper for sure.

Not sure about hiking in Turkey but if you really want a beach/snorkelling budget holiday I think it would be a better bet than Sicily.

Ryanair also flies Luton to Trapani and Stansted to Palermo.
Or Bournemouth to Pisa (rather far from Sicily I agree - but if you have the time, why not : overland travel is cheap and lots of stuff to see on your way down south).

Using my beer index: Sicily is cheaper. They had the nerve to charge me €5 for a pint in Istanbul - outrageous behaviour!
