Advice needed...please
“ Itinerary Advice Needed ”today, 20:32
Hi fellow travellers,
My sister and I (25yrs and 23yrs) are travelling to India late September start of October 2012 for 13 days arriving and leaving from Delhi. At the moment here is what I have penciled in;
Delhi- 1N
Delhi flight to Varanasi 3N flight back to Delhi
Delhi car to Agra 1N
Agra car to Jaipur 2N
Jaipur train to Udaipur 2N
Udaipur car to Jodhpur 2N
Jodhpur flight to delhi 1N
What I am asking for help with is, is do you think this will be doable? I was wanting to add Jaisalmer, to do a camel overnight trip, well but I am scared if I do that I will be rushing the trip too much. Does anyone have any suggestions on changes with this intinerary or with what I have chosen for transport to get around?
We are travelling at a medium budget and would rather fly then to waste time travelling by land. We would like to do some cooking classes, shopping, and really open for any new experiences, pretty much soak in the atmosphere and have a great experience. Anyone recommend a good cooking class/school/day tour in any of these places.
If you can help it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Firstly please be advised that you'll be approached on this forum by Agra and delhi- based touts looking to rent you a car - ignore them particuarly those that send you private messages. This is not a forum for travel agents to tout for business.Yiur trip is doable - I fail to understand why anyone wants to try to sleep in a cold desert next to a lousy camel- each to his own!
Yep its doable perhaps the following mods
Spend 2 nites in vranasi and catch the overnite train to Agra -
the taj is closed on fridays but be there at daybreak before the hordes. You'll probably need 2 nites in Agra unless you take a car to Jaipur via Fatehpur Sukri -
Most seem to want to join the hordes in Jaipur (try to avoid a weekend as full of local tourists doing their shopping and hotels full)- I suppose we all have to do it once but there is not much logic to visit both Jodhpur and Jaipur
So take the daily overnite train from Jaipur to Jaiselmer #4059 ETD Jaipur 23.30 Stay in old fort away from the bloody camel - a half day trip is just about bearable on one of the beasts.
Then car or buses to Udaipur
Every suggestion is by definition subjective but bewar the hassle of touts and dont overpay for your car - no need to book hotels/cars beforehand.
Fly from Udaipur to Delhi or take train

Hi,The itinerary is quite good to begin with. You could tweak it a bit by reducing a day in Varanasi and using it to travel to Jaisalmer. I agree with the earlier post, a camel safari is not a very good idea unless you love riding camels :-).
You could also think about spending a night or two in some camp or palace away from the main cities.
Out of the two nights in Jaipur you could spend one at the Samode Palace which is about 40 km from Jaipur. It is one of the best run Palace hotels of Rajasthan.
Out of the two nights in Jodhpur you could spend a night in a tented camp at Chhatrasagar, Nimaj. This is a tented camp on a lake, the food here is very good and they also have cooking classes.
Many more such additions can be made depending on your budget and your tastes.
Do feel free to contact me if you have any queries.

dandt, your plans look pretty good.Looks like you did some research before you posted.I would skip Jaipur and the camels,(a rip off). The touts are going to be all over you with stories to come see the Magic Monkey at samode palace,NO WHERE close to Jaipur. In india,40 kms is a long way.Or you will get offers to come sleep in a tent, which in India means sleep under a piece of plastic and call it a tent...Your plans look fine. You asked for advise, some of us offered, and of course some jokers offered golden camels and plastic. And their E-mail address.in PMs
