France and Italy Itinerary-HELP!!!!
I'm leaving for Europe in three short weeks and am trying to solidify my plans for France. I'm pretty outdoorsy and enjoy a good bike ride or hike. Food and just experiencing life as a local are also high on my list of things to experience when traveling. I'm also a sucker for a view, whether it be a small town or breathtaking landscape. Here is my current itinerary:
Day 1-3: Paris
Day 4-10: ????
Day 11-12: Cinque Terre
Day 13-14 Florence
Day 15-16 Siena
Day 17-20 Rome
Italy is a bit packed but those are the major sights I would like to hit and getting around seems to be more manageable in Italy without a car. Do you have any recommendations for France? Ideally I'd like to go north to Normandy but I'm not sure that makes sense logistically. I've been reading about Provence but I'm not sure how nice it will be without a car...
Advice would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Kevin

I feel Paris and Rome could use more time, at least another day. You could also do day trips from Paris.Maybe a few days in the Burgandy area on the way to Italy. http://anyportinastorm.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=france&action=display&thread=4774&page=1

I can't believe Cinque Terre has been upgraded to one of Top 5 things to see in Italy. It seems like it's one everyone's itinerary! Sorry for this rant. I still think it's a nice, scenic place, but there are so many prettier villages/small towns in Italy, albeit most of them are further south.I think it's a nice itinerary. I would perhaps add a day to Paris. One full day is enough for Siena.
The most obvious choices to fill the hole between Paris and Italy would be Rhone-Alpes region, with cities like Annecy and Chambery. Or heading to Switzerland (Lausanne) and Italian lakes.
As for Provence, I am afraid you would miss out on best things about it without car: small towns, villages and beautiful landscapes.
