Puerto Madryn to Punta Tombo drive time?

Puerto Madryn to Punta Tombo drive time?

I have a day in Puerto Madryn via cruise ship, and just reserved a rental car for the day. Most information estimates that it would take about two hours to drive to Punta Tombo on the mostly paved roads, but Google Maps estimates 3 hours 15 minutes! Which is it? Could I pick up the car at 9 am, see the penguins, and be back in Puerto Madryn by 4:00 at the latest? Anyone done the drive lately?

From memory the drive is around 2 hours each way. You could leave at 9 and be back by 4pm no problems. It's not a particularly interesting drive but the Penguins are great. Enjoy!

Thanks! I'm arranging to pay extra to pick up the car 90 minutes earlier, just to be on the safe side.

Yes, I've heard that the drive is tedious, but it's one of the primary penguin possibilities on the cruise.
