To and from Laaoyune

On the second week of August I will be traveling from Casablana to Laaoyune, on the CTM bus (yes, I know, 20 hours!) On the way back I want to stop at Essaouira before continuing to Casablanca, but the CTM website does not list any options from Laaoyune to Essaouira. I would like to think if a bus passes through Essaouira, it could stop to pick passengers, but I may be wrong. Has anybody done this and if yes, how did you do it? Thanks!

Go with another company like Supratours

I did this southbound on Supratours, return journey was by a grand taxi (it was Eid & no transport available!)

Hello,

I have the CTM timetable, but it doesn't indicate if the bus from Laayoune to Casablanca calls into the bus station at Essaouira. you could try contacting their call centre 05 22 54 10 10, but they will probably only speak French.

Your main problem is that the second week in August is still Ramadan, the final week, and Moroccans in the transport sector will be exhausted in the extreme mid-summer heat and deprived of food and water during daylight hours. It's entirely the wrong time to plan your twenty one hour bus trip. The timetable only lists three departures daily from Laayoune at 15.30, 19.00, and 21.30 but only if drivers turn up for work !

Your best plan is to wait until you reach Laayoune and find out what return services are available, there are plenty of other bus operators providing competition, on the main inter-city routes.

When I was travelling in the Agadir region some years ago, the main transport facility was Gare Routiere at Innezgane from where you can find transport to almost anywhere, so you may have to break your journey accordingly, you will almost certainly need a rest on such a long journey.

But twenty one hours ? When I was driving buses my bum was aching after a four-hour stint at the wheel, thankfully I'm retired now !

Bon voyage!.........Miguel.

Hi,

If you chose to use CTM then you need to know that this travel agency itinerary is from Casa to Agadir/Enzegane and then down south to Laâyoun, the bus doesn't pass by Essaouira because this town is located on the coast. My advice for you is in your way back from Laâyoun buy a ticket from Supratours direct to Agadir and change to Essaouira.
Good luck

..... magicalchild is right, the route is Marrakech to Agadir/Inzagane and on to Laayoune. Essaoura is a small town, the others are cities. There are buses from Inzagane to Essaouria.

Thanks to everyone who answered this. I had assumed that an "official" transportation company like CTM would work normally during Ramadan, but I'll be prepared in case it doesn't as some of you mentioned.
