Bus Boston to NYC

Will be traveling down to NYC from Boston and returning a few days later. Is there a difference between the Chinese buses (Lucky) and Bolt. I know the two China town buses you can't confirm a seat but Bolt you pay more but can get confirmed seat. Going down on a Friday early afternoon and don't think we need to buy tickets online but at counter. But we coming back on a Sunday, do we need reservations because of over crowding? Would appreciate any advise.

Thanks

I have only gone down to Phili on a Chinatown bus and have always bought a ticket on site, but I would recommend going with an option that comes closest to guaranteeing you a seat since Friday afternoon and Sunday are peak travel times.

Just based on my own experiences taking a number of the different Bos-NYC-DC buses, you are better served by taking Bolt. It is a far more professional operation, the buses are in better shape, your fellow passengers are likely to be the kind you will want to be cooped up with for several hours, and you get a confirmed seat. You may pay a little more, but the $10-20 more is worth it--at least, it is to me. If saving money is the most important thing, then go with the Chinatown bus, but realize that you get what you pay for. A Sunday return out of NYC will be a mob scene.

If you choose Bolt (which I would), make sure you reserve in advance online. It gets popular, especially on weekends. Also, the earlier you book, the cheaper the tickets.
