Ecuador ItineraryHey guys my boyfriend and I are planning a trip to South America from May - Aug (3.5 - 4 months).We are looking at spending about 1 month in Ecuador and are trying planning a rough itinerary. Are there any places were spending too much time at?, not enough time at?, or have missed all together? Critiques please! And if there's any must see's please let us know. On a side note we are doing a jungle tour in a later country.
->land in Quito, fly to Galapagos
->7-8 days in Galapagos
->fly back to Quito
-> 7-8 days in and around Quito (inc Mindo & Otavalo)
->travel to Latacunga, spend the day there
-> 2- 3 days in Quitotoa/Quitotoa Loop
->2 or 3 day guided climb of Cotopaxi
->travel to Banos, 2-3 days in Banos
-> bus to Guayaquil
->5-7 days in and around Guayaquil and Beaches (Montanita, Puerto Lopez, Salinas, maybe even down to Tumbes, Peru or Mancoa Peru)
-> Flight from Guayaquil to Cusco or from Tumbes to Cusco
What do y'all think? Also what would you think is a good budget to estimate?

18 days for Quito, even with the sidetrips is quite long. In your case, after seeing the 3 itinaries of the 3 countries, I would cut off some days in some parts and invest them in the northern parts of Peru instead of taking a flight Tumbes Cusco. But overall your 3 itinaries are fine and very relaxed. Most people usually make the mistake to squeeze in too much.

3Thanks so much for all your advice! Where would you reccomend seeing in northern peru. We would like to go to Iquitos but didnt include it in the itinerary because it was so out of our way.

4Personally I would not go to Iquitos, just another jungle destination. I would prefer Rurrenbaque or Manu. I would go to Huaraz if you like mountain scenery and include Chavin as a sidetrip, also maybe the area around Piura and Cachapoyas but you should get some more updated info about these parts from other users as it has been a long time I have been there. With your timeframe you could also go from Lima via Huancayo and Ayacucho to Cuzco. This route is amazing and now quite off the gringo trail. It takes more time but it is well worth.

5Huaraz is one of the best mountain destinations of the world, I would definitely cut days around Quito and Guayaquil (you shouldn't stay in the town itself even one night, it's really horrible place). Beaches in Ecuador are not that special, I would say stick to Montanta)
Chan-chan ruins in North Peru are also worth the stop

6I likeded the beach around Atacames in Ecuador. Be careful when choosing a beach so. The extreme northern parts of Peru are fine, but it is incredible the difference of the water temps with Trujillo for example. While in other parts the water temps are really warm, at Trujillo it is dam cold even in the middle of the summer due to the Humboldt current

8Huaraz is one of the best mountain destinations of the world....in your opinion and you are lacking thesis and proof!
Ecuador, along the volcans has amazing mountain scenery too, the Alps in many places, southern Patagonia, even more amazing and you don´t have issues with altitude the same for Alaska or Norway, Annapurna and Everest in Nepal, Karakoram in Pakistan is spectacular, Caucasus and Turkey, it is endless!
