Tunisian Border

Hi, has anyone crossed out of Algeria into Tunisia recently using the Nefta–Taleb Larbi border crossing? If so, any troubles on the crossing? Perhaps more importantly, using public transit, how do you actually get to the border crossing? Can you make the trip from Constantine?
Thanks

I know someone who tried to cross the other way Tunisia-Algeria via Nefta last December & failed. Was turned back very quickly & had to head to one of the northern crossings ... due to the Tunisians knowing the Algerians wouldn't have let him in

Public transport is fairly easy in Algeria, mini buses run all over the place for more local rides from main centres & taxis are cheap

"due to the Tunisians knowing the Algerians wouldn't have let him in"

Why they believed that? Had they their visas?

Apparently he was turned back due to this reason ... met him later in Algiers

Visas were all in place, think this area is slightly 'protective' ...

Thanks, Kira.
What do you mean by 'protective'? Dodgy?
Also, I didn't realize the northern crossings were open to foreigners - that'll probably be easier from Constantine. Where are the northern crossings? And more importantly, to the best of your knowledge are they open?

hi nick... just curious, did you have any trouble obtaining a visa for algeria without having an exit flight booked in advance? i am planning to do the same crossing from algeria to tunisia and am applying for my tourist visa. i have been told that you must have an exit flight booked before the embassy approves the visa. did you have any problems?

Nick - the Algerians are very 'worried' about tourists, preferring them to travel in escorted groups, particuarly in the south

I 'presume' as this border is somewhat remote, that they weren't too keen

There's a border near Annaba, can't think of the name of it now, will check with an ex-colleague (Algerian) later!
