Traveling from London to Liverpool
We will be in London the first week of September and we are planning a day trip to Liverpool. We're trying to cut some costs while we're there and hoping to find some discounted travel or ideas. Can anyone suggest (or have any ideas) the best/cheapest way to travel to Liverpool from London or know of any discounts that may be offered? Thanks!

Depending on the time of travel, you could actually go by coach but this might take a while (guessing about 5 hours). But you can get some really cheap fares from http://www.nationalexpress.com. I think as cheap as £10.00.Trains are normally pretty expensive but will take you a lot less time.
I would prefer maybe to travel by coach and they stay over night in liverpool and return the following day. Night life in Liverpool is quite cool :)
You can maybe get a cheap travelodge hotel for £25 per room:) http://www.travelodge.co.uk/
Hope this helps

Train tickets are on sale for September now so you can see if there are any advance fares. In theory you can find one way tickets from £12 but you might struggle to find these at a time you want to go and on the same day if you want a day trip. If you don't book in advance it will be very very expensive!National Express will be cheaper and it is usually easier to find advance tickets as they don't sell out as quickly. However for a day trip it's not a great option as it will take much longer than the train.

I managed to get a single fare from Liverpool to London on National Express for £7 recently, it does indeed take 5 hours though, not much good for a day trip. Worth looking on the Virgin Trains website to see what deals are available at the mo. My father got a ticket from London to Liverpool not that long ago travelling first class for less than £10 (It was the last train of the day heading north though, (still, it gives you an idea that there are deals to be had if you keep checking the website).8
is there any chance you could stay over a night in liverpool? it's a small city but there's a lot to pack in 8 hours! i know of friends who've stayed at 'inn comfort' who've said it's cheap and decent for a night's sleep.as for transport virgin trains can be as cheap as £12.50 each way if you book in advance, although to be honest i haven't found seats at this price for quite a few years now.
