Oman trip ... itinerary...your suggestionsHi there
I will travel with a friend for 5 weeks in Oman and Socotra.
What is your feedback about following itinerary:
Arrival in Dubai...we rent a car and go to the musandam Peninsula and stay for 3 nights in Khasab
We thaught to visit following things on the Peninsula:
Day 1: Road Tibat – Khasab
Day 2: Khasab (fort, souq, beach) and Khors
Day 3: Jabel Harim + Rawdah Bowl mountain safari (maybe 4WD with Driver necessary)
Then we go back to Dubai and give back the car. We sleep one night in Dubai and the day-after we take a flight from Sharjah to Socotra. We will stay for 2.5 weeks in Socotra. After we return back to Sharjah and take a Bus from Dubai to Muscat. Then we have following itinerary:
North + East: 10-11 days
Muscat: Mutrah, Old Muscat, Ruwi, Qurm, Shatti al-Qurm & Al-Khuwair, Al-Ghubrah & Ghala
Around Muscat: Seeb, Bandar Jissah, Qurayat and Sur
Day trip with rental car: Yitti and Wadi Mayh, khors (Bandar Khayran, Al Seifa)
Ras al Jinz
Sharqiya Region: Sharqiya / Wahiba Sands, Ibra
Al-Dakhiliyah Region: Jebel Shams, Wadi Ghul, Jebel Akhdaar, Nizwa
Al-Batinah Region: Nakhal, Sohar
South: 2-3 days
Dhofar Region: Salalah
What is your impression?

1You haven't said how you plan to get to Salalah? If you fly, then 2-3 days is OK, but if you drive, it's a very long way for such a short trip! (approx. 10hrs each way!). There is a lot to see/do in Dhofar but you will need a vehicle. How long do you plan to spend in Muscat? I don't think you need more than a couple of days there. There is not much to see beyond the Grand Mosque and Muttrah Corniche and Old Muscat. Shatti Al Qurm is nice, but not very interesting if you are coming from the West?

2thank you mercedes10... yes i'm from the west..
i thought by going by public transport (bus) as the way is long i will maybe spend more days there (like 4-5) and fewer days in the north. about muscat I thought to spend like 3-4 days...but after reading your information i will spend fewer days in muscat.

3If you have plenty of time and you're not averse to hiring cars, then Salalah is the most rewarding place in Oman to do so. You could happily spend a week in the Dhofar region without running out of destinations for day trips if you have your own transport. Based on your original OP you have almost 2 weeks in Oman to play with, of which you will use 2 on the bus trip MCT-SAL, and then back again, so something like 10 days to do other stuff.
If I were you, I'd aim for 4 days in Salalah (with hire car) as a base minimum, and I agree with Mercedes that a couple of days in Muscat is plenty - try to aim for arrival and departure partial days plus 1 or 2 additionals.
That gives you 4 or 5 days to travel through Nizwa, Jebel Shams, Jebel Akhdar, Wahiba, Ras al Jinz etc.
I'd forget Yiti, Bandar Khayran & Sifa, and I'd drop Sohar entirely. Nahkl is mildly interesting, but not essential.
