Accommodation in MalianaFilmena is a good place to stay at in Maliana particularly if you do not have your own transport. If you travel into Maliana by microlet then the driver might even drop you off at the place.
Directions: turn L at the roundabout which is just after the Ginasio which you can't miss. Filmena's is a gentle walk of about 700m from there. You walk down the gentle slope past two canals and just after the road begins a gentle climb upwards look out for the two storey blue house on the R. It has a small low not so blue shop in front which you might miss. The place is only a 100m metres from a small shop for your water supplies and only about 400m from the restaurants and the market. You pass all these on your way to Filmena's which is on the road to Ritabou.
The guesthouse has 5 rooms with bathrooms @ $15 p night including freshly cooked buns/rolls and coffee for breakfast.
$20 p night for two people sharing a room.
There are wide verandahs where you can sit and beat the heat.
It also has about 4 rooms with two shared bathrooms - don't know the prices for these. I'm also told there is a guest lounge room with TV but did not explore this. Unless you are unlucky enough to be there when there is an Australian school group visiting which is mainly during school holidays there would be no need to book. The daughter speaks some English.
You can even arrange to have an evening meal here.
At busy times the UN vehicles might wake you up early morning as some UN folk stay there.

For someone without transport it is a better option than either The Pousada or Tansos and also a lot cheaper but you do get to miss the sunset.
PS be prepared to be the resident dogs' 'best friend' at meal time. They appear from nowhere. There is also a pigeon loft so there'll be lots of cooing to calm you.
