phone (passport, copies of passport first pages, one photo, copy of flight ticket, bank statement, copies of
bookings in Gabon, vaccination certificate +100 EUR). They promised to issue visa in 3 days.
They called me on my mobile yesterday morning saying that I should bring them copies of bookings in Gabon
printed in colour (??!!) - strange request, but I brought them coloured booking the same afternoon.
Then they called me this afternoon that visa was refused because I should have made my bookings through
travel agency in Belgium (I did bookings directly). They never mentioned Belgian travel agency before and
I asked explicitely yestrerday if my application (after bringing them coloured bookings) was complete and
they said YES.
I wonder if anyone else had recently experience these type of requests, in particular from Brussels embassy ?
Any idea, what to do ? I intend to go on Monday to some travel agency here trying to get some " provisional
booking " from them.
However., I have a feeling that the consular officials are inventing new rules on the spot on a daily basis...

3Here is the follow-up of the story:
I went to the embassy this morning to pick up the passports. I took them, went out of the building and just peeked into the visas pages. Surprise: Gabonese visas were there! I went back to ask what does this mean - they said, visas were refused but they are stamped in the passports ? They said that " they were not completed since ambassador did not sign them.
Then they invited me to the consular office where they explained that " some regulations for travel inside Gabon have changed and you cannot just wonder around ". They mention they needed a confirmation (email) from Loango
when we would stay there and then ambassador will sign...No mentioning of any Belgian travel agency or coloured
There we are now. Will keep you updated....

Any more news from the embassy ? I hope you manage to obtain your visa. I think they change the rules and requirements every day.
Here is what they asked from me :
- passport & yellow fever vaccination certificate
- photocopies of identity card + passport + vaccination certificate
- proof of booking for the first 3 nights of my stay
- copy of my flight bookings with return ticket
- proof of travel insurance + health insurance
- an ID picture
- 100 € for the visa.
And I obtained my visa this week. Good luck to you !

5The countries that create problems for whites when applying for a visa are not silly, they just show you the problems and hazzles an African will have when applying for a visa in Europe or America.
Paris and Brussels are bad places to apply for a Gabonese visa. Because the French refuse a visa to almost everybody applying for it in Libreville.
Think a bit before judging Africa - or stay away!

We are two belgian people planning to make a trip sao tome - gabon - cameroon - equatorial guinea (the latter depending on whether we obtain a visa or not).
I read the stories above about Brussels... I went to the embassy of Brussels today and they gave me the same list of required documents. We had all the documents except the hotel reservation. For the hotel reservation (min. 3 days), a proof of online booking was not sufficient. We would need an official letter confirming our reservation from a hotel somewhere in gabon, with a stamp and signature. They said it should be the original version and that an email is not sufficient. I have called and written a few hotels but until now none was willing to provide such a statement and send it by post or email.
Does anyone has experience with an (affordable) hotel providing such a letter? How did you guys obtain this?
Alternatively, could any of you send me a good quality scan/pdf version of such a reservation? Just to see what it looks like. I might try to make something similar myself with an official logo on it based on that if nothing else works...
I would very much appreciate your suggestions or help!

7Well, i have been through this same problem but i fixed it. the truth is Africa will never change dough. may be some how they need some kind of tips which we legally call bribe. the best way of not having all this struggle is to apply directly to the Immigration Police in Gabon its self (SEDOC) they will deliver you with a special authorization Letter, that is already your visa, the letter carries a visa number on it if am not mistakenly, you shall just need to pay the visa fee at arrival so that the sticker in the fixed into your passport, if you are having more problem or you need some guides you can sent me a mail and i will try to help you as am based in Gabon
