From Portugal to Brasil

I'll keep it brief....My partner and I are in the first stages of researching our bike ride next summer. We have had this idea in our heads for almost 3 years now and need to look into the feasibility of it all. We want to cycle and travel on boats, not by air.
We would like to travel from Portugal to Brasil and would like to know how possible it it. Looking at some info on the internet, freighter boats may be available, but I'd like to know if anyone has done this. We don't mind waiting in Portugal for a boat, and we are aware of the potential costs in relation to air travel. It doesn't have to be Brasil, but not any county further north as we want to get back to Argentina.
