How to do Machu Picchu plus Beach time in Peru in 2 weeks

Hi,

I am looking in to a trip to Peru (first time). I am hoping to do some Machu Picchu time as well as checking out some beaches and fitting that in to 2 weeks. Just starting my research now so don't know much about this area. Any suggestions? . . . specific places to visit and stay? particular trails to Machu Picchu? Thanks!
Low budget preferably.

There are a lot of beaches along the coastline of Peru but only in the far north you will find a decent beach with warm weather and that´s pretty far away from Cuzco. Cuzco itself and the surroundings will need at least a week.

I wouldn't bother hitting a beach in Peru, that is not what Peru is about.

In 2 weeks I would stick to the Cusco/Machu Picchu and Arequipa/Colca Canyon areas.

Agree with the above.

If you're a surf fanatic and can't live without a trip to the beach, the ones you'll want are in northern Peru, between Trujillo and the border with Ecuador. You can fly from Cuzco to Trujillo, Chiclayo, or Piura connecting in Lima for not terribly much ($150ish one-way).

That said, I think your time would be best spent just focusing on the south. If all you want is warmth and sun and you're okay losing the beach itself, you can always hop down to Puerto Maldonado or Manu NP in the Amazon from Cuzco for 4-5 days.

Agree with aslukas, if you're a goofy surfer check out the beaches in the north of the country, you can find the biggest left on the planet between Trujillo & Chicalyo but this would sound like visiting Amsterdam coupled with a beach stay in Spain.
